About the speaker
Sam McLarty is living proof of the life-changing power of Australian medical innovation. Born profoundly deaf, Sam McLarty received one of Australia's earliest cochlear implants at just one year old after his family relocated from Tasmania to Victoria so he could access the treatment.
Sam went on to build a career in elite sport, being selected by the Collingwood Football Club with Pick 30 in the 2016 AFL Draft and spending two seasons on the club's AFL list. He later completed a Bachelor of Science (Honours) at Monash University and now serves as Development Manager at the Bionics Institute -where the cochlear implant was first developed.
Passionate about Australian medical innovation and its potential to transform lives, Sam combines his lived experience with insights from elite sport and science. In this next event, Sam will share his inspiring journey of resilience and innovation, exploring how breakthrough technology can unlock extraordinary potential and change lives.
